Action Genre

I have chosen to use action as the genre I will be researching and working on to complete my film trailer production, I believe action will enable me to use more effects, both diegetic and non-diegetic sound as well as showing typical action conventions using props and costumes as well as a variation of shot types to create drama and excitement to make the trailer even more so entertaining.

Evaluation

I have currently just begun the process of developing my skills within Final cut pro, I have no previous experience using this editing software yet found it rather easy to pick up as I found that the options to edit were very clear and similar to those on other editing software such as Windows Movie Maker as I have used prior. For example, as you can see the libraries are very similar making it clear what you have already imported furthermore the same importing process is the same, simply click and drag as well as it being clear what is being played and when.

I believe that I am at an average ability at using Final Cut Pro with strengths such as being able to use the “Ken Burns” effect alongside trimming down frames and being able to place any special effects such as non-diegetic sounds however,  I could improve on expanding the transitions used to ensure my productions have a variety of cuts to make it more professional and overall entertaining to watch. Despite me being new to Final Cut Pro, I have has experience of story boarding as I did GCSE media studies as did all of my group. To plan my story we collaborated the our ideas and chose the best ones to come up with a creative and effective storyline. We chose to base our story on a comic book theme, we had the typical conventions including; a hero, a victim and a basic recognisable storyline that viewers would be familiar with. When planning the story board I ensured a variation of shot types would be used to ensure that the short film would be as entertaining as possible and to ensure that the main character was portrayed in the right aspect for example using a low angle shot to exaggerate the props used to make the scene more dramatic, I think that having a more professional camera and possibly a camera stand to still the camera when filming would have made the filming process easier and more professional.
As I have mentioned previously, I have studied GCSE Media Studies achieving a grade A. I thoroughly enjoyed working both independently and as a team within my GCSE’s and believe that Media studies allows me to be creative  and I hope to show my full potential within the next following two years.
